This rare hand-colored lithographed antique map of the American West highlights the routes Mormons used to reach Utah from various points along the Missouri River. It is the only map from that era that focuses specifically on the Mormon Trail.
In this version, two routes are hand-colored: one originating from Council Bluffs and the other from Atchison ("Atchicon"), Mormon Grove, and Independence. Additional trails leading to Council Bluffs come from cities along the Mississippi, including Nauvoo. The borders of Utah are also hand-colored.
At the lower-left corner, the map lists fourteen counties in Utah.
