The State of Mississippi has had two supreme court buildings, sometimes referred to as the Carroll Gartin Justice Buildings "Senior" (or older) and "Junior" (newer), in Jackson, the capital city of Mississippi. Surprisingly, this Greek temple-designed structure is the newer of the two, opened in 2009. The older Gardin Building, which was torn down in the same year, was much maligned for its modernist design that many felt did not reflect the grandeur and dignity of the state's highest court.
