The home, built in 1872, was the only house ever owned by the Wilson family. They lived there for four years, before Wilson's father resigned his position as pastor at the Columbia Theological Center and moved the family to Wilmington, N.C. A grassroots movement in 1928 prevented the house's scheduled demolition. It opened to the public as a museum in 1932. Stewardship was granted to the Historic Columbia Foundation in 1967. | Credit line: Photographs in Carol M. Highsmith's America Project in the Carol M.
