The Women's Museum's 70,000-square-foot building was the Hall of Administration for that centennial fair. The building predates the expo; it was built in 1910 as Dallas's first coliseum, originally designed for horse shows and to hold livestock but also usedfor operas and other musical entertainment. "The Spirit of the Centennial" 15-foot-high statue outside depicts a young woman rising from a saguaro cactus (a species native to Arizona, not Texas). A Texas girl, Georgia Carroll, was the model. The statue was designed by Raoul Josset and executed by Jose Martin. | Credit line: The Lyda Hill Texas Collection of Photographs in Carol M.
