Many of the artisans who work with the finished granite were European immigrants who worked in finishing sheds in the town of Barre, near the Vermont capital of Montpelier. They were responsible for creating most unusual tombstones, including this one, often for one of their fellow workers, at the Hope Cemetery, which opened in Barre in 1895. | Credit line: Photographs in Carol M.
