Orville and Wilbur Wright had already flown their Wright Flyer III, the world's first practical heavier-than-air plane, for 59 seconds in 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, but it was at this place, at Torrence Huffman's farm in Dayton where Orville Wright had come to sketch wildflowers as a teenager, that the brothers perfected the airplane for sustained flight and trained many of the world's first pilots.
