Also known as the birthplace of Thomas Lynch, Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence, the house at the Lowcountry rice plantation was built by Lynch's father in the 1730s. In 1779, Lynch Jr. and his wife sailed for St. Eustatius in the West Indies. Their ship disappeared at sea in a storm and was never found. | Credit line: Photographs in Carol M.
