The reserve protects 2,250 acres of fields, forests, freshwater wetlands, salt marsh, and sandy beach on the densely populated southern coast of Maine. Situated at historic Laudholm Farm, the reserve operates programs in coastal research and monitoring, environmental learning and decision-maker training, and land and water resource management. Its goal is to protect and restore coastal ecosystems around the Gulf of Maine. Laudholm Farm is a vast dairy farm, once owned by George Clement Lord, the president of the Boston and Maine Railroad. | Credit line: Photographs in Carol M.
