Wilder was a Union colonel who commanded the much-feared "Lightning Brigade" during several southern campaigns of the U.S. Civil War. Completed in 1899, the 85-foot "Wilder Tower" was renovated and rededicated in the 1960s. | Credit line: Photographs in Carol M. Highsmith's America Project in the Carol M.
