The monument, erected in 1929, honors John Edward Hopley, a Bucyrus newspaper editor who fiercely championed the idea of a coast-to-coast highway. Much of the road, named for U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, is now four-lane, and parts have been subsumed into stretches of limited-access freeways. | Credit line: Photographs in the Carol M.
