The mountain, now a non-profit attraction and a North Carolina state park near Linville, North Carolina rises to 5,946 feet which is the highest peak on the eastern escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A mile-high and the highest for such a bridge in America was built in 1952 by Hugh Morton.
