Built of Roman brick, with granite and terra cotta trim elements, the building was designed by the Minneapolis, Minnesota, architect George Grant Elmslie in collaboration with Sioux City architect William L. Steele and Elmslie's partner, William Gray Purcell. The building, which opened in 1918, features a 157-foot eight-story tower and sculptural work by Alfonso Iannelli and metal grillwork designed by Elmslie. | Credit line: Photographs in the Carol M.
