Named "Cleve" for the owner and "holm," the Swedish word for home, the manor was built Osgood, who owned the only steel mill west of the Mississippi River, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He built Redstone, 230 miles away on the far side of the Rocky Mountains, as a company town for workers at the ovens that produced coke that fed the fires of the steel plant. Cleveholm, Osgood's 42-room summer home and hunting retreat, was constructed of large stone blocks hand-cut and quarried from the towering cliffs just across the Crystal River. | Credit line: Gates Frontiers Fund Colorado Collection within the Carol M.
