Built in 1893 for Thomas Meade Bowen, a prominent local judge and former brevet brigadier general in the Union Army during the Civil War, the building changed hands several times, eventually becoming a boarding house. Over the years the mansion deteriorated badly. The Associates for Psychotherapy and Education purchased the mansion in 1987 and restored it. The design, a cross between Queen Anne and Richardsonian Romanesque styles, features brick, with stone lintels over the windows and intricate woodwork.
