The granite memorial was erected by Barre's Scottish immigrants in 1899 in observance of the 100th anniversary of the death of the poet. The statue was conceived and modeled by J. Massey Rhind. The Burns figure itself shows the poet returning from a day of plowing, and the plowing itself is depicted in this relief. | Credit line: Photographs in Carol M.
