Published in 1867, this was the second edition of the U.S. Coast Survey's nautical chart of Boston Harbor. Although it was updated, primarily with navigational aids, it retained the appearance of the first edition and its subsequent updates. Prepared as navigation aids, these charts included detailed depth soundings, sailing directions, and landscape or headland views to assist ships as they sailed through the bay and approached Boston Harbor. The charts also included detailed topographic information about the city of Boston and its surrounding coastal communities.
