Compiled Corrected and Published from the most recent Authorities and accurate Surveys by Amos Lay 1817. Entered ... 12th day of May 1817 by Amos Lay ... New-York. | The first edition to cover the entire state. Ristow shows editions of 1817, 1822, 1823, 1824, and 1826. This edition not in Phillips. This adds a southern sheet to the 1812 map which only extended to the Pennsylvania border (see our copy). Compared to Eddy's map of the state issued in 1818, Lay's map is on a larger scale and, although not as graphically elegant, it has more information regarding township lines and lots and improvements (especially the surveyed Erie Canal). With outline color by county. Map is dissected into 40 sections and mounted on linen. Folds into a new blue cloth folding case 27x18 with "New York State Amos Lay 1817" stamped on the spine in gold.
