Collection: José Guadalupe Posada
Mexican printmaker José Guadalupe Posada (1852–1913) gave the world the calavera — the elegant grinning skeletons that have become inseparable from Día de los Muertos. Working at hand presses on cheap newsprint, he produced thousands of zinc engravings that skewered the powerful and chronicled everyday Mexican life. His work directly inspired Diego Rivera and the muralist generation that followed; today his most famous figure, La Catrina, is recognized around the world.
